TRENDING TILE FOR THE BATHROOM OR KITCHEN
Tile is not usually top of mind for most people embarking on an interior design project, but it can be a great way to update a room and tie the space together. One thing to remember when selecting tile is that you want your tile to be timeless, but that does not mean it has to be boring. Here are a few tips for incorporating trending styles and patterns in your interior design scheme.
Pick an accent wall and make that the focal point with an interesting pattern tied into the other wall tile colors. This should be the wall most viewed when looking at the space for example the back shower wall.
Don’t neglect the niche! A shower floor tile (typically smaller than the wall tile to ensure more grout lines and less slippage) can be used in the back of the niche to add a little interest to what might be a flat looking wall.
Put a twist on a classic. For instance using a traditional subway tile and installing it on the vertical or in a chevron pattern ensures timeless style with a contemporary twist.
Watch the grout. The grout can add color to become a statement or ensure a nice clean look in a simple white. To maintain the clean lines intended make sure your installer properly seals the grout to keep it as fresh as intended.
Unless you have the time and budget to change tile shortly down the road use caution when adopting trendy or bold statements as it can look dated before too long as styles change. When the right tile is selected it can be the difference that finishes a space with good taste and timeless beauty.
