Another way to bring fresh energy to your décor is with bright, patterned wallpapers. Up until the past five years or so patterned wallpaper was typically associated with an older relative’s musty living room, but recently they have come back into style with contemporary colors and fresh new designs. We used a bright blue butterfly wallpaper to liven up a children’s bathroom, and added interest and depth to the powder room with a mature navy and white design. Fun, contemporary patterns are a quick and easy way to take a more traditional space and give it a fun, unique update. And for the adventuresome, put it on the ceiling too!

Wallpaper can also be a great way to inject drama into a smaller space where furniture is not the focal point. A dramatic wall covering can elevate the room from an after thought to an integral part of the overall design scheme.

We used black and silver wallpaper in our client’s penthouse powder room to maximize the space and emulate the chic, contemporary feel of the building. The dark pattern juxtaposed beautifully against the white features and gave the space a dramatic elegance on par with the overall décor of the home. An unexpected wall covering can turn a tucked away room into a highlight.
